Absence
If your child is unable to attend school for any reason, please notify the school on the first day of absence by telephoning the School Office, contacting the class teacher, or by sending a note.
We are required to monitor absences in detail as follows:
authorised absence     - where a reason is given

unauthorised absence - where no reason is given

Lateness
It is important that children should arrive at school punctually. Repeated lateness can be upsetting to a child, disruptive to the class, and where a reason is not given can count as an unauthorised absence. The school day begins at 8.55 am.

Holidays
Parents are entitled to take children out of school for up to ten days in any one school year. Any further days count as unauthorised absence. However, please bear in mind how disruptive holidays in term time are to your child’s education and avoid them if at all possible. Parents needing to take their children away for a longer period during term time should consult the headteacher as it may not be possible to hold the child’s place open.

The Education Welfare Service
Our Education Welfare Officer, Heather Bridgeman, will support, explain and advise on the many issues concerning frequent lateness or absence from school.  She is also able to give guidance on free school meals, employment of children, children in entertainment, welfare rights and child protection.  Heather can be contacted via the School Office.
