P.E. (Physical Education)
In physical education (PE), pupils develop confidence and skills in a range of activities, such as dance, games, gymnastics, swimming, athletics, outdoor and adventurous activities.
They work as individuals, in groups and in teams. Throughout, they learn the value of healthy, active lifestyles. Discovering what they like to do, what their aptitudes are at school, and how to be involved in physical activity helps them make informed choices about lifelong physical activity.
At Mayfield pupils take part in about 2 hours of PE per week during curriculum time. In the Foundation Stage we spend a considerable amount of time developing the skills required for good coordination, balance and all round agility. During KS1 pupils develop these skills through the use of Multiskills; they also follow schemes in dance and gymnastics. During KS2 pupils develop these skills still further as they move to develop their games play and take part in a progression of the early dance and gymnastic skills taught previously. During the summer months pupils swim in our school pool at least once a week.
