Foundation Stage

The Foundation Stage at Mayfield follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework (EYFS) which became statutory in September 2008. This is based around four themes: A Unique Child; Positive Relationships; Enabling Environments; and Learning and Development.
In addition there are six areas of learning and development which are:

•     Personal, Social and Emotional Development;
•     Communication, Language and Literacy;
•     Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy;
•     Knowledge and Understanding of the World;
•     Physical Development;
•     and Creative Development.

This is a continuation of the curriculum that children will have been following at playgroup/nursery/or with a child minder. Within all areas of the curriculum, the emphasis is on learning in practical contexts. We aim to ensure our setting is play based and caring, as well as providing a thorough, but gentle, preparation for KS1.
