Art

At Mayfield School, Art is a unique skill that enables pupils to become part of and develop their own enviroment. Through the painting of the School mural, designing our mosiacs,in our sculptural work and our enviromental art in the school garden. Children with special educational needs have the same assess to Art, and we like to explore art used in different religious and cultural traditions. In the Art curriculum children develop their knowledge, skills and understanding through activities linked to their topic work.In Foundation Stage we recognise that Art is an important area in which children can develop their fine motor skills, co-ordination and concentration, and it is a unique oppotunity to embrase their imagination. Each year group cover progressively more complex aspects of the main areas- drawing , painting, printing, sculpture and textiles as defined by the objectives outlined in the Cambidgeshire schemes of work.Children use sketchbooks for skills work and reference through out key stages one and two. They have the opportunity to visit Art galleries and have local artists working with them during their years at school. Art stimulates creativity and imagination and we like to celebrate this in our displays around the school.
